“When your reasons rise above your excuses, so will you.” – Orrin Woodward
We are excited to feature our next Life testimonial from a couple who has experienced dramatic changes in their lives because of their involvement with Life. Check out James and Danielle Douglass’s story, submitted by Danielle:
James was a professional licensed security officer who provided security services for government facilities. James is also an associate minister where he worships; he also teaches a men’s Sunday School class. He is a proud husband, father, grandfather, family person, and friend to many.
I, Danielle, went to school to be an accountant and followed all the rules: go to school, get good grades (most of the time), and get a safe, secure job (where I work for the government). I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and children’s Sunday School teacher.
We were living what we thought to be a good life. After all, we had followed all the rules. We purchased a home and were stuck in the “home to work” rut prior to being introduced to Life. We had been a part of a different business which expanded our vision and let us know we wanted more than our safe, secure jobs had to offer. The problem was that the previous business did not grow us and so we did not grow it.
“Before being introduced to Life, we were a mess and did not even realize it.” – Danielle Douglass
We were living paycheck to paycheck, had gotten caught up in the “payday loan” game, and had no savings. We paid as much in overdraft protection fees as some people pay for a car note. Regarding car notes, we had several: one for each car for the both of us, one for a car we bought for one of our daughters, and we were co-signers on cars for our other two daughters. We didn’t understand all the different personalities, we just knew that people were different. We really did not understand what the core differences were or how to even relate to them. We had a good marriage, but we were far from a great marriage and we were not doing anything to improve our marriage. James was already a friendly guy and easy to get along with. I, on the other hand, was the opposite: offensive and not the easiest person to work with. Both of us assumed little responsibility and generally looked elsewhere to point blame (anywhere but at ourselves).
ENTER LIFE. When we were introduced to Life, we immediately plugged into the Life Training Marketing System and we began reading the Top 5 books.
In particular, I, Danielle read Personality Plus and The Five Love Languages. That was a BIG eye opener. Immediately, I recognized that James and I were exact opposite personalities and each of my daughters had a predominately different personality. More than that, the book shared ways to work with others who had different personalities. That was HUGE – not just at home, but at work. I began to recognize the personalities of my co-workers, bosses, and employees. I learned what made them “tick” and I began to relate to them in ways the books suggested. I expanded my growth by reading books like How to Win Friends and Influence People and Resolved. These books specifically taught me how to treat people and re-frame situations in order to see through a different colored lens. Books like Love and Respect and The DNA of Relationships opened new possibilities to go from a good marriage to a great marriage.
“The personal development books, provided by Life, have helped me the most. I have become a person who works well with others and who is able to effectively lead others. I give more than I take. Today, I can apologize, when before I could not bring myself to apologize. As a result of my personal growth, I have moved up in my profession to become a senior manager, resulting in a 22% wage increase.” – Danielle Douglass
I, James, could always get along with anybody. The problem was, I didn’t really talk to a lot of new people. I was good just being by myself. Finances is completely different story; I was horrible. Let’s just say I was financially illiterate. As stated above, when Life entered our lives, I immediately began reading books; The Magic of Thinking Big was one of my firsts. That book helped me begin to grow a vision of possibilities for our lives, but I realized that would mean talking to people. I dove into the other Top 5 Books and began coming out of my quiet space and making contacts and sharing the business opportunity.
“I recognized immediately the impact of good information, so I also dove into the Financial Fitness Program and started learning just the basics. That alone helped me develop a plan to start getting our family out of the Financial Matrix. We paid off all of our car loans, dug ourselves out of the payday loan trap, and began paying off debt and saving money. When my mom was sick, I was able to spend the last two months of her life by her side because of the financial decisions I made from this information.” – James Douglass
“Today, because of Life, we are better people, we are in a better position financially, we have a better marriage, we are better parents and grandparents, and we are responsible adults who contribute positively to our community.” – James and Danielle Douglass

James and Danielle, I’m so impressed on how you applied the info into your work and personal lives. Getting out of the payday loan trap…awesome! Learning how to apologize and be humble is so attractive. Great job!
