“I challenge you to find something that causes a righteous discomfort in your life that will serve others.” – Jerry Harteis
The Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) Life on Life Push-Up Contest is here! Tomorrow, October 14th, 2017, thousands of Life Members will gather together at the Life University convention in Louisville, KY to participate in a push-up contest to support a non-profit that is saving children from the unspeakable evils of human trafficking. The company-wide goal is to raise $1,000,000 for O.U.R. Here are some of the final details for anyone who is participating in the contest:
- Where?
- The contest will be held in the Tool Room between the hours of 10:30am – 4:00pm on Saturday.
- When?
- Each team has a designated time when they will compete. If you are unsure of your team’s scheduled time, please contact your team leader at the Fortified Coordinator level.
- How?
- During your team’s scheduled time, you will arrive at the Push-up contest registration area and “check-in.”
- Please have your pledge form filled out completely and any money in a sealed envelope labeled with your name and Life # and attach it to the Pledge Form. You will hand all of this in after you complete your push-ups at the “exit” table.
- After you check-in, you will break off with a volunteer into push-up groups who will explain the rules and monitor your group’s push-ups. Once you complete your push-ups, please have your designated volunteer write the number of push-ups you completed on your pledge form.
- You can then go to the exit table and turn everything in. This is where you can get pre-written AGO tax receipts for your donors (if necessary).
- There will also be a “general donations” table and “spectators” area for anyone not competing but wanting to cheer on teammates and/or financially support Operation Underground Railroad this weekend.
- During your team’s scheduled time, you will arrive at the Push-up contest registration area and “check-in.”

In addition, we just received a story from a Life Member who has made it her mission to spread awareness about this horrible enterprise in her local town. Inspired by All Grace Outreach spokesman, Chris Swanson and O.U.R. Founder, Tim Ballard at July’s Masters of Leadership Convention, Jennifer Radtke and her team organized a local Life on Life youth push-up contest just two days ago in conjunction with this weekend’s event. Check out the story, written by Jennifer:
After hearing Tim Ballard speak in July, I knew that I had to do something. I had to, at the very least, educate the children in our hometown about the evil that is in the world. Being a substitute teacher and getting to know so many of the kids in our town, it would kill me if something like this happened to any one of them. My dream was to get into every school in our district and have them all do push-ups to raise awareness on human trafficking and to show O.U.R. that we are behind them. The schools have been hesitant to get involved so I decided to talk to the youth group in our church. The youth director’s daughter just got back from a mission trip she took with a friend from the group. They went to Cambodia and had mentioned to us how human trafficking has demoralized the country. I knew they would want to help spread the word about about O.U.R.’s mission.
Within the next few weeks I was standing before our youth group challenging them to a push-up contest because I knew it was something small that they could do. It’s the small things that can make the greatest difference. The girls that had gone to Cambodia were blown away and very excited to learn about O.U.R. Other churches even heard about it and started taking a weekly offering to help raise funds. The kids also had an opportunity to work at a local pumpkin farm where they could keep all of the funds they made from the snack shack and donate the money to O.U.R.
“Watching these youth learn about this evil and knowing there are amazing people willing to fight it and heal those who have been victimized has been amazing. You can see their hearts open up and want to do more.” – Jennifer Radtke (Life Member)
With the day set and the youth excited, we started advertising. We put a float in the Labor Day parade and handed out flyers for the push-up contest along with candy. We put stories in the newspaper to raise awareness of this cause and what we are doing to support it. We called a news crew and invited them to come and cheer the kids on.
Just two days ago, on October 11th, was our event. We titled it “O.U.R. CHAOS CHALLENGE” and it was a joyful CHAOS. Our youth group’s name is “Christians Helping Alongside Other Sinners.” The competition was fierce. The girls insisted on doing full push-ups rather than “girl”push-ups. Some that did not plan on doing push-ups jumped in and joined the fun. It was an amazing event! In total, we had 35 people doing push-ups, 1,352 push-ups were completed, and $2650 was raised in one night. We had many people ask if they could stop by today (Thursday) so that there donations could be taken with to the Life University convention this weekend.
We are not giving up on getting into every school. Every child needs to know that this evil exists and it is not always the creepy man in the van offering candy. They need to know that they these people are stylish men and women driving nice cars and offering you things you want and telling you what you want to hear. Knowledge is the first step in fighting the battle. Thank you Life on Life for inspiring us so that we could inspire these kids and so they can go out and inspire others.
We hope this story encourages you to get involved in this company wide Life on Life mission to raise $1,000,000 for Operation Underground Railroad. While registration for the push-up contest is now closed, there is still time to donate and get more pledges. Good luck to everyone competing tomorrow and thank you to everyone who has played their part in this important mission.
