“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” -Mae West
Generally speaking, the average Joe out in the world feels like he is “supposed to do something” with his life; but many do not even know where to start. The Life on Life Initiative is speeding up the process to help people realize what so many have after years of searching–namely, that service to others is the center of every true God-given purpose. Take a look below at yet another inspiring Life on Life event that took place in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. These written thoughts come from one of the local Life Leadership members, Laurie Tallio:
Life on Life in Memory of a Life Well-Lived
In Life Leadership, we are all on a personal journey of self growth and personal development. We focus every day on developing our Emotional Quotient; and we understand that it is not what happens to us in life, but how we respond that helps create who we are and
the legacy that we leave. But when it hits home in the very most personal and profound way, are we truly prepared?
The Band of Brothers Leadership Company, U.P. (Upper Peninsula) team, working with Steve and Beth Morgan, spent Saturday, September 19th, 2015, doing a Life on Life event at Camp Michigamme, a BEAUTIFUL church camp nestled in the woods along the pristine shore of Lake Michigamme in the central U.P..
The camp had a list of “to do” items for us to fulfill, and we set to it under the direction of our local leader, Sharon Nelson-Curtice. Just two months ago, a local gentleman from Band of Brothers Leadership Company lost his wife to a car accident that occurred while he was at our Tuesday meeting. He and his wife met at this camp, so this Life on Life event was a wonderful way to not only honor Peggy’s memory, but to support Andy and the camp that they so loved. Andy–in every way–exemplifies the Emotional Quotient that we all work so hard to achieve. He has been at every Life Leadership event since losing his wife. With heart heavy but purpose strong, his dream now is to honor her memory by seeing that her dreams become reality. We all loved being at the camp for the day, and we felt that our Life on Life project had many purposes. Following are some excerpts from a thank you email written by the Executive Director of the camp…
“Hi Andy. I just want to let you know that when I returned to camp last evening, I was really impressed with all of the work that you and your friends did over the weekend. The gardening work looks just beautiful!!! I am sure that Peggy is smiling down from heaven…and the one by Asbury was so overgrown, it’s just so much nicer now :)”
“And thank you for cutting down those dead trees that were such a hazard–and hauling all that brush and providing firewood. Double goodness there.”
“Lots of stain was carefully applied to the backside of Grace Hall, giving that thirsty wood a nice coating that will help protect it from the winter weather, too.”
“I can’t tell you how much we really appreciate all of the hours that you and your friends gave in Peggy’s memory…”
Following are some quotes from future Life Leadership members, whose parents demonstrate servant leadership daily:
“I liked riding in that truck and helping daddy paint and cutting the garden. I liked that I was serving people and serving God.” -Isaiah (Age 7)
“I liked doing the garden.” -Rebekah (Age 5)
“I liked helping with the garden. It made me feel good inside to know we were helping and making Mr. Andy feel better because of his wife’s memory. I liked feeling like part of the team instead of just you and dad going out to do business.” -Hannah (Almost Age 10)
“Like work! Like 4-wheeler!” -Benaiah (Age 2)
We came home from this Life on Life event more unified than ever–and more determined to make a difference in the lives of others and to help grow this Life Leadership community to a million households and beyond!
There is nothing quite like gathering together in common purpose to help someone else. We will all continue to pray for Andy after this sudden loss of his wife, Peggy. Life Leadership is proud to feature stories like this one–as members around the world step out of their comfort zones to make a difference. Great job, Band of Brothers Leadership Company!
