“Leadership is all about making a difference, and there is a special satisfaction in knowing that you’ve helped others.” –George Guzzardo
The Life Leadership community does a great job of identifying needs and stepping in to fill them; it’s because the leaders and members have hearts that truly care and want to make a difference. Not surprisingly, the Life on Life Initiative has taken this concept of finding a need to a different level by looking for severely disadvantaged areas and organizing selfless ways to help. Usually these events offer nothing to the volunteers except for the honor and the feeling of knowing that they served their community in a noble way; and usually that is the greatest blessing!
Those in the United States and much of the world remember that this time last year, Ferguson, MO, was in the spotlight for the shooting and death of Michael Brown. It was definitely a city in turmoil–with protests, riots, looting, fires, anger and hate. The damage was in very localized areas, with a lot of property unharmed. What they failed to mention in all of the news headlines were all of the good, decent and diverse people who wanted peace, and wanted to help those who were hurting.
“A few of the many churches in the area have food pantries, and during that time they shared their resources so that all of us could help more people. During this past year, there has been much rebuilding, changes and healing going on; and unfortunately, the donations to the food pantries have dwindled to almost nothing. Each church is now trying to support their own pantry; Ferguson Christian Church is one of them. When the Life on Life Initiative was announced at the summer leadership convention in Green Bay, WI, I started to think that a food drive would be perfect.” -Jena Vaughn (Life Leadership Member)
“The results from our Life on Life food drive were great, and the team really pulled together to benefit the food pantry at Ferguson Christian Church.” -Jena Vaughn
Some of the areas in Ferguson have developed major pockets of poverty–comparable to the poorest spots in St. Louis. There is so much need for community members to step up and serve in compassionate ways, and these Life Leadership members didn’t hesitate to fill that role.
“We had an awesome time at our Life on Life food drive. Life leadership not only reaches out to help individuals make changes in their lives in the 8 F’s but we also help provide for the less fortunate and the people who need a hand-up during these challenging times.” –Mike Vaughn (Life Leadership Member)
“Ferguson Christian Church was very grateful for the wonderful donation to their food pantry. Our guests greatly appreciate our willingness to reach out and serve the community. We hope and pray that the city of Ferguson will continue to heal, rebuild, progress and grow as a closer community.” -Jena Vaughn
We are thankful for the leaders in Ferguson, Missouri, who stepped up to represent Life Leadership and the Life on Life Initiative by participating and organizing this food drive. Your passion to make a difference is truly inspiring!
