“Purpose is the place where your deep gladness meets the world’s needs.” – Frederick Buechner
Life Leadership has featured so many stories of people serving for the Life on Life Initiative, that some of the stories actually slipped through the cracks! However, that doesn’t mean the stories were any less significant. That is why we are excited to share this story that came in from Chicago, Illinois, where Life Members helped a worthy organization called “Refugee One.” Check out the details, written by Jeanne Fritch:
Refugee One: Backpack Life on Life Project
In August of 2015, over 20 Life Leadership Members (including children) came together to bring several stacks of new school supplies, personal items and backpacks to help a non-profit organization called Refugee One. Our goal was to fill at least 25 backpacks in order to help refugee children begin new productive lives in the United States. The children endure long trips across the world with little or no belongings, many coming from refugee camps, are they are met by a representative from Refugee One who greets them with a backpack for their new life as a young American student. This gives them something new to keep and have as their own.
The Life Members arrived on that day and stocked tables that soon overflowed with supplies. Assembly lines were set up and adults worked alongside children, exceeding the team’s goal by filling 40 backpacks and filling many boxes with all the extra supplies that would be used by the organization. The backpacks were then delivered by a team member, whose car was filled-to-the-top, to deliver to the Chicago offices. She was met by a very grateful and overwhelmed staff member.
Thank you to all of the Life Members who participated in this Life on Life Initiative from Team Braveheart, under the leadership of Jeff and Tammy Darling! Your service and contribution made a difference for several children who were in need.
