“Sometimes the smallest act of love can take up the biggest space in someone’s heart.”
The Life on Life Initiative continues to inspire Life Members to participate in events that serve the needs of other people. Anyone who lives with a chronic illness understands the suffering that comes with it and when a disease strikes a child, it becomes even more heart-wrenching. Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA) is a subtype of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), a group of conditions characterized by chronic arthritis in children. It is very rare and unfortunately affects a child’s entire body.
Three and a half years ago, 11-year-old Megan Krogman was diagnosed with SJIA and although she is currently in remission, there are many children who suffer on a regular basis with the disease. Currently, there is no cure; however, there are new medications being developed to help children like her.
Megan and her family decided to gather a team for the Arthritis Walk on June 5th, 2016 to help raise money for arthritis research. She and her family are strong advocates and want more children to be helped by the new medications that are being developed.
When Members from Life heard about this, they became some of Megan’s biggest supporters and joined her in a 5k walk in order to help raise funds for The Arthritis Society.
“I enjoyed walking for Megan and knowing the donations would help more children.” – Tina Guenter (Life Member)
“My favorite part was seeing Megan have the victory of reaching the finish line. She was in a lot of pain but the victory was sweet.” – Mary Fehr (Life Member)
“It is incredible to see a group come together to make a difference.” – Susie Hildebrand (Life Member)
“I like the fact that we can unite to help someone selflessly and to help others see that there are still good people left in this world.” – Dave Enns (Life Member)
Life is proud to have Members who care so much about helping others. Thank you to everyone who walked to support Megan from UP Team Eagle, under the leadership of George and Jill Guzzardo.
