“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” ~William James
Life has made it very clear that anyone can make a difference and that is why it is so heartwarming to feature stories of people who participate in events to represent the Life on Life Initiative. Because of these intentional acts of service, people from all around the world are able to experience the ripple effect in their lives. The majority of participants at these events already have a heart for serving, so Life on Life has just provided a vehicle to focus this energy and involve others in an inspiring way. Check out this story from New York, written by Pat Tefel:
Giving Back to a Homeless Shelter in New York
Some of the Life Members in central New York gathered to plan a project as a local team in May of 2016. We discovered a private shelter called Emmaus House that provides temporary housing for homeless women and children in our area. The shelter helps people get back on their feet and become independent again. We knew this shelter was a worthy project for our team of people who want to give back to the community at large.
Our team gathered early on a Saturday morning and painted the entire first floor of a rather large Victorian home. We provided our own tools, ladders, brushes and rollers, and got to work. By the end of the day, the job was complete and the home was immensely blessed for a job well done.
The feedback we received from the staff at Emmaus House was so encouraging. They were so impressed with our group of 25 people and how we could accomplish so much with a great attitude and servant spirit, while also having fun!
“Having lived in a local domestic violence shelter in Utica as a young mother, I finally got to give back to the community that supported my breaking free of a dangerous and volatile situation with my children. That experience was the beginning of my journey of healing, education, and independence to which I can never fully repay.” – Monita Donahue (Life Member)
It is an honor to be a part of a company that reaches out to others and act on their words while becoming the hands and feet of Jesus. We are so proud of our team’s lasting impression and the example it has set for others!
Life is so proud to have Members who care about helping others. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event from the Rascals of Kaizen organization in New York, under the leadership of Tony and Pat Tefel.
