Life Leadership Feeds the Sick
Life Leadership Members are at it again! And this time, the Life on Life Initiative has reached into the heart of Brooklyn, New York, to make a difference in the lives of many from the Jewish community who are sick and hospitalized. On February 18th, 2016, a group from the Centurion team decided to volunteer their evening to prepare over 300 meals for patients and visitors in the local hospitals. Read on to hear some of their testimonies and to learn about the wonderful organization that they were able to partner with to make this happen!
“With Life on Life, we had an amazing time together. Winners from New Jersey & New York came together with a common goal in mind. We wanted to help alleviate the stress of patients & visitors of the local hospitals, of not having Kosher food available. It was a great feeling for all of us to give to our community.” -Yosef Wasserman (Life Leadership Member
Yad Ephraim was established nearly a decade ago with one goal in mind: to ease the pain and suffering of our Jewish brethren lying scattered in the hospitals of Brooklyn. The agony of a patient lying helpless in an emergency room without support and help has caused so much outcry that we decided to establish an organization with a group of kind-hearted individuals who volunteer 24-7 to ease the burden of the sick and the suffering. We started small, gathering a caring group of volunteers to distribute the warm, wholesome meals we prepared in our kitchen. Our focus was Maimonides Hospital in Boro Park, firstly, because of its proximity to our organization, and secondly, because it serves the largest Kosher eating population in the U.S.
“In any difficult situation, it is often the little kindnesses that make all the difference. When a person is hospitalized, especially for a longer period of time, he/she struggles with many issues. There may be pain, fear of the future, confusion regarding treatment options, loss of privacy and other inconveniences. And while most of us cannot do much to help them with any of these issues, we can help in another simple way: we can provide nourishing, tasty food!”
“I felt privileged to be able to help those who can’t help themselves. But what made it even more special was doing it together with a team of positive people that had a great attitude.” –Joel Rubinstein (Life Leadership Member)
“The food we prepared included a full-course dinner plus a variety of snacks. Throughout the day, not only patients, but also their family and visitors will enjoy our nutritious, hearty snacks.”
“My experience was something hard to describe. It was the emotional feeling that you get when helping someone that’s trying to get back on his feet after a critical life episode; and we/I had the opportunity to prepare and provide lavish meals for them so the individual can recover calmly and happily.” -Moishy Doitsh (Life Leadership Member)
“When we were packing the portions for the people who are hospital bound, I was thinking to myself: Nothing feels better than knowing that we’re letting another person–whether a patient or a family member–know that we care by sending a fresh, full-course, Kosher meal to be served to them in this difficult time.” -Joseph Deutsch (Life Leadership Member)
“It was a great feeling to give food to these people and bring a smile to their faces.” -Pinny Cohn (Life Leadership Member)
“This past week, I had the opportunity to help out the organization ‘Yad Ephraim’ (which means, ‘give a hand when people are in need’). They cook, prepare and give out homemade food to the people in the hospitals. The feeling of helping others was indescribable. It’s so great to be a part of Life on Life!” -Yanky Weill (Life Leadership Member)
“Serving others is the most fulfilling thing we can do since it’s doing what we are called to do.” -Matis Unsdorfer (Life Leadership Member)
“The feeling that we got when we packed those packages was indescribable, and no other physical *material* activity can come close to that. It’s something that will last for a long time afterwards.” -Shloimy Henig (Life Leadership Member)
“Lending a helping hand to those suffering in the hospitals was incredible!”

What an blessing to do for those who can’t do for themselves. Although I’m not Jewish, I can appreciate the need for specialized diet. What do you do if you’re in the hospital and they don’t serve Kosher food? Thank God for your service to your community. Truly a Life on Life service 🙂
