“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” -Mother Teresa
The crazy thing about serving others is that you can never get “too much” of it. It is not uncommon for a mentor or a counselor to “prescribe” service to others as a remedy to depression or self-pity–and rightly so. When one takes their focus off of their own problems and shifts their energy to help alleviate the problems of another human being, the side effects are extraordinary. God has designed us to work best when we work together as communities of tightly-knit interdependent individuals. Life Leadership provides an environment where imperfect people can come together–and through service–set themselves and others free from the bondage that enslaves them. Whether helping someone get out of debt, become financially independent, or even just learn how to live; Life Leadership members around the world are creating a movement that could very well affect all corners of society.
Life Leadership Members Lend a Helping Hand in Canada
To give yet another shining example of service through the Life on Life Initiative, a team of Life Leadership members in Moncton, New Brunswick, decided to turn their monthly get-together into an opportunity to give back. Organizers, Joce and Cynthia Dionne, along with sixteen other teammates, set aside a day to volunteer at the local Pregnancy Resource Centre of Moncton. From handy tasks such as painting, cleaning and yard work, to helpful acts of organizing and donating clothes and supplies, this group graciously poured out their love into the lives of both the Centre’s clients and their staff of volunteers. Check out the pictures and testimonies below, and notice how just one day of service distinctly affected the lives of all who were involved.
“There are truly unsung heroes in the community, and it made me realize how incredibly lucky we are to live in a country where these kind of places are even allowed to exist. I feel more proud of the community around me and more educated about the great people working hard to make a difference in my own backyard. ‘The only way to be happy is to give happy!’ (C.B.)” -J.P. Bourque (Life Leadership Member)
“I felt happy and proud to be able to help in a small way, and to be working on something together with my teammates that would bring smiles to the faces of both the ones that the Centre helps and the volunteers who work there. We all have our little problems, but I–for one–never had to worry about feeding or clothing my kids…Just another reminder to count our blessings.” -Mary Doucett (Life Leadership Member)
“I could not believe the number of clients that they serve while relying only on donations from the public and local companies. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience, and I can’t wait for the next one.” -Stephanie Bourque (Life Leadership Member)
“Making a difference and giving back to our community is always awesome, especially when it is done with an amazing group of good people! I didn’t think we would do so much in just a few hours, but when you work as a team, ANYTHING is possible!” -Angella Woods (Life Leadership Member)
“The experience opened my eyes to the specific needs that the new single moms have; and how this Centre offers compassion, support and vital information that answers those needs in such a caring and non-judgemental way.” -Jacqueline Richard (Life Leadership Member)
As Life Leadership expands to countries all around the world, the mission of changing people’s lives will always be in the forefront. The Life on Life Initiative was the spark needed to inspire thousands of “everyday” people to go out and “cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” We want to thank the Moncton team for setting a great example and making a big difference at their local Pregnancy Resource Centre.
