“Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.” -Howard Zinn
Life Leadership continues to make a difference through the Life on Life Initiative and since its debut in June of 2015, thousands of people have participated in many different community service events in some capacity. Everyone wants to be a part of something; and the Life on Life Initiative is a way for people to get involved and serve those less fortunate alongside friends, leading to stronger bonds and changed lives for both the givers and the receivers.
On September 26th, 2015, nearly 50 Life Leadership Members gathered in Elkhart, Indiana to give back to a local social service agency called Faith Mission–a 501(c)3 organization–for their Life on Life Initiative.
“Those of us in Life Leadership are trying to make the world a better place. I felt like serving at this Life on Life event helped to empower another organization to make an even bigger impact in their community.” -Chris Miller (Life Leadership Member)
Mission Statement:
To provide faith-based programs and services that minister to the homeless and other individuals so they may have positive life-changing opportunities.
Faith Mission Core Values:
- Faith – We base our actions on God’s will as revealed in the Holy Scriptures and trust God will bless our work.
- Hope – We offer hope to the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of those we serve regardless of economic conditions.
- Compassion – We provide services that demonstrate the love that has been extended to us through Christ.
- Integrity – We keep our promises, are reliable in all areas of ministry, and are who we say we are.
- Relationships – We recognize that relationships are vital to our ministry and base them on the character of Christ.
Faith Mission provides shelter for the homeless, food for the hungry, life skills training, clothing and care for those in need with Christ-like love and kindness. For their Life on Life Initiative, Life Leadership Members labored outside the facility by landscaping, painting, gardening and doing construction projects. Additionally, several participants served inside the warehouse thrift store (which provides funding for the mission) by sorting clothing and household items, which is an ongoing need for the organization.
“It felt really good to serve an organization that does so much for the needy in our community and across the world. We had a great turn out! It was awesome seeing all of the smiles and joy on the faces of our team members as they united and worked together to complete tasks that took less than 2 hours and normally would have taken Faith Mission weeks to complete on their own. They were very grateful for our team’s service and voiced it many times. However, I believe we were just as blessed in the giving as they were in the receiving. Maybe even more so.” -Carol Miller (Life Leadership Member)
The constant outpour of service from Life Leadership Members for the Life on Life Initiative is evidence of how much people care; the number of people being affected proves that there is so much need in the world and people who can help! Director of Faith Mission, Ross Swihart, likes to say: “Stay true to where God has called you, and you will see Him do amazing things through you.” Thank you to Team Legacy, under the leadership of Chris and Carol Miller, for representing the Life on Life Initiative in Elkhart, Indiana. As an Assistant Chaplain at the Elkhart County Jail I know all too well the impact that this ministry can have on people. There are many inmates that get out of jail and have no place to go. Faith Mission has provided a place for the guys and ladies to go. The work that this mission does really impacts the community. I was thrilled to learn that we as life leadership were going to help out here. I am so proud that I am apart of a. orgainization that wants to make a difference. It is great to see that there are people in life that take Matthew 25 seriously and help those that are the least of these. #lovelifeleadership
