“Generosity looks good on everyone.” – Jon Norman
Life Leadership is so proud of all of the Members who continue to organize their efforts in order to help people who need help functioning in society. We believe the Life on Life Initiative is not just a charity that provides a hand-up to those in need, it is a mission to restore hope and help transform lives through love and service to people who have otherwise been forgotten. For the giver, a Life on Life event may be a memorable experience that will change their heart; but for the receiver, a Life on Life event may be the conduit that changes someone’s life. Check out this most recent story, written by Lisa Kosmoski:
Dozens of Life Leadership Members traveled as much as three hours to be a part of the massive volunteer effort required to prepare the Camp American Legion, near Tomahawk, WI, for the summer season. For four to five weeks prior to Memorial Day, volunteers arrived to assist with labor needs that ranged from deep cleaning of the cabins, to repair work all over the grounds. This Life on Life initiative involved a full day of physical labor outdoors as Life Members assisted with the spring cleaning of the grounds and the preparing of firewood for the entire camp.
Camp American Legion has been serving Veterans since 1925 and has a rich history of service to active and inactive duty military. Early in the camp’s history, it was known as a place of rehabilitation for military men who were exposed to mustard gas because it was believed that the best treatment for this type of exposure was fresh air. What better place to get fresh air than being in the north woods! Today the camp still functions as a place of rehabilitation to any Wisconsin service men or women who could benefit from some fresh air and some time in the woods. Camp American Legion is also one of the few camps in America that provides this respite free of charge to veterans who are suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and to those who have injuries, disabilities and illnesses that have impacted their lives during or after their time of service. Active duty military also have the option to apply to spend a week at the camp to re-connect with their families following a time of separation from their wives and children as a result of providing military service.
“It was truly our pleasure to spend the day painting, raking, chopping, splitting and stacking! What a great feeling to serve those who have risked so much to serve us. This Life on Life Initiative felt like we were paying back and paying forward at the same time!” – Lisa Kosmoski (Life Leadership Member)
Life Leadership is proud to have Members who are constantly giving back and making a difference in society. Thank you to everyone who served in this Wisconsin Life on Life event from the SWAT Team, under the leadership of Eric and Jennifer Bloomdahl!
