“Don’t strive to make your presence noticed, just make your absence felt.”
The Life on Life Initiative has made quite a statement all across North America. This cultural Life Leadership movement of making a difference has helped multiple non-profits, families, companies and communities; however, it seems that the greatest blessing has been received by the participants who have served.
In California, a large group of Life Leadership Members joined forces and volunteered at three different locations for their Life on Life Initiative on September 26th, 2015.
In San José, two Second Harvest Food Banks received several helping hands under the coordinated efforts of Life Leadership Members, Albert and Rosella Maglines and Stevie and Heather Haines. Volunteers loaded and set out pallets of food and helped to distribute food items to those in need.
Life Leadership Supports Second Harvest Food Bank
Second Harvest Food Bank is a trusted leader in its dedication to ending local hunger. Since its inception in 1974, Second Harvest has become one of the largest food banks in the nation, providing food to nearly a quarter of a million people each month. The Food Bank mobilizes individuals, companies and community partners to connect people to the nutritious foods that they need. More than half of the food distributed is fresh produce.
“I felt my heart open up in a way it never had before. Serving these people, you’d never know their need. They looked just like us.” -Stevie Haines (Life Leadership Member)
James Ingland shared after the event that he got a bit teary-eyed as he remembered what it felt like as a little boy on the receiving side.
Life Leadership Member, Maureen Chen, stated, “My heart was crying inside, and it felt so good to serve at Second Harvest that morning! God planned it all so perfectly for me to read the September All Grace Outreach series book, Improving Your Serve, and then experience this at the same time.”
Meanwhile, that same day, another group of leaders organized an event to serve and lend their muscle to Habitat for Humanity in Los Baños in the Central Valley area. Life Leadership Member, Venkat Varada, and his crew spent the day doing demolition to repair and fix up a home for a family in need.
“We hammered, banged, pushed, pulled, climbed ladders, and used a crowbar to dislodge the shed, piece by piece. It was great to work alongside my son, Samuel (age 14), and know that we were helping to build a house for another family.” -Tim Bateman (Life Leadership Member)
It is so rewarding to see the kind of difference Life Leadership Members are making for so many deserving charities across the nation. Thank you to all the Life Members in California for being such humble servants and joining the Life on Life Initiative.
