“The secret of joy in work is contained in one word – excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.” – Pearl Buck
Life’s Golden Rascal award is an exciting way to recognize employees at the Corporate Office who go above and beyond their normal job duties. They have a willing attitude, they strive to improve, they’re team players, they take initiative, and they lead, among many other things. In fact, many of the employees that work for Life model these characteristics day in and day out, so it’s always hard to choose just one winner. In December of 2017, the Golden Rascal award winner was none other than Customer Service Administrator, Taslim Kerr. Check out her interview below!
First of all, tell us a little about yourself.
I am originally from Maryland and moved to North Carolina right after I turned 16. It was a hard adjustment at first but I’ve grown to really like it here. I graduated from East Carolina University with my degree in Hospitality.
How did you land your position with Life corporate?
Prior to Life, I was working at a job I absolutely hated and was causing quite a bit of stress. I reached out to a temp agency and they presented me with the opportunity. It sounded like the perfect fit for me as my desire was not just to find a job, but be an environment where I could really be myself.
The interview process was a unique one (my family asked if I was interviewing with The Pentagon), but after meeting and talking with everyone, I knew this was the place I wanted to be.
How long have you been with Life and what is your current role with the company?
I’ve been with Life now for 2 years. My job is Customer Service Administrator which is a mixture of things. Some of the things I take care of are back-orders, shipping, and charge-back disputes.
What is the best part of your job?
The people! For the first time in my work experience I am in a place where I feel comfortable working and socializing with everyone around the office.
Do you have a favorite book or product in the Life portfolio?
The 5 Love Languages is an interesting read. It’s insightful and can be a useful tool in understanding how each person gives and receives love in a relationship.
What are you most looking forward to with Life in the next 5 years?
I look forward to possibly expanding into new countries. Working in Customer Service, we see emails all the time from international Members expressing interest in bringing the Life business to their communities. It’s awesome to see how passionate people are about our products.
What would you say is your lifelong passion?
Honestly, I am still trying to figure that out. I do enjoy bringing a smile to someone’s face. You never know what people are going through and I feel just a small, pleasant interaction can make a person’s day that much better.
Who inspires you?
My parents inspire me. It is them who provided me the tools that I use on a daily basis on how to conduct myself in the workplace. They are incredibly supportive and hardworking.
Do you have a favorite quote?
“I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in darkness the astonishing light of your own being” – Hafiz of Shiraz
I love this quote so much that part of it is tattooed on my arm. 🙂
What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working?
I’ve been described by many as being a “foodie.” I love cooking and trying new restaurants. Other things I enjoy include laughing (you’ve probably heard my laugh around the office), reading and spending time with friends and family.
Life is so proud to have someone as dedicated and tenacious as Taslim Kerr in Customer Service. Congratulations Taz, on winning the Golden Rascal award in December!
