“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” – Vince Lombardi
It is rare that a company is able to find and employ so many men and women who embody leadership skills in their every day lives. In fact, Life is blessed to have a full team of winners in its bullpen. One of the ways the company recognizes these winners is by awarding them with the Golden Rascal, aka “employee of the month” award (chosen by colleagues), at each staff meeting. We are proud to announce that Gaby Theriot, Spanish Media Specialist, won the Golden Rascal award for the month of October! Check out her interview below.
“Gaby is one of the hardest working and most reliable people I’ve ever worked with. She is always humble and ready to learn more, and is willing to tackle any project regardless of how big it may be. I feel very blessed to have her working in the International Media Department with me. She is just a really awesome person all around.” – Andy Garcia (International Media Manager)
First of all, tell us a little about yourself.
Hi, I’m Gaby Theriot. I was born in Monterrey, México and I now live in Raleigh, NC. Spanglish is my favorite language. I am an “extroverted introvert” so about 2 or 3 days per week people might confuse me for a sanguine when I’m really a melancholy-phlegmatic. I love laughing with people, having one on one conversations (because you don’t have to compete with the “real sanguine’s” and choleric’s to speak 🙂), and spending quality time with my husband, friends, and family.
How did you land your position with Life Corporate?
I was working on my resume and I had decided I wanted to look for a new job. I prayed for the right door to open up for me, and 3 days later I got a phone call about working for Life. They were looking for a fluent “Spanglish speaker” for their media department.
How long have you been with Life and what is your current role with the company?
I have been with Life a little over 2 years working in the International Media Department. We work on translating and editing audios, videos, books, and all of the Life products.
What is the best part of your job?
Life’s culture seems to attract really cool people. So I would say the people I work with are my favorite part of my job.
Do you have a favorite book or product in the Life portfolio?
My favorite book in the Life portfolio is Rascal, by Chris Brady. When I read things like: “have the courage to be authentic, the character to be a character, and the convictions to be an original,” I immediately think, yes! I want to be like that!
What are you most looking forward to with Life in the next 5 years?
I really would like to see our company expand to more countries in the world. It’s amazing to see how the same message can have a great impact in the lives of people from different cultures and nations.
What would you say is your lifelong passion?
To use everything God has put in my hands to help others discover and experience His love in the same way I have.
Who inspires you?
So many people!!! Brené Brown, C.S. Lewis, Steven Furtick, Francis Chan, Amanda Cook, Taya Smith, Todd White, Heidi Baker, Tim (My husband), My family… and everyone who has pursued their dreams with everything they’ve got!
Tell us about one of your most embarrassing experiences.
Telling you my most embarrassing experience here would become my new most embarrassing experience. But I’ll tell you this one: Some of my friends here at The Office are very athletic and they invited me to go for a run after work one day, well Jenn and Chris run much faster than I do, so I told them the first time I ran with them that I felt like the little rhino from Jumanji (the movie) that can’t keep up with the stampede. So we called our running team #teamrhino.
Do you have a favorite quote?
“God made us: invented us as a man invents an engine. A car is made to run on petrol, and it would not run properly on anything else. Now God designed the human machine to run on Himself. He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the food our spirits were designed to feed on. There is no other.” – C. S. Lewis
What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working?
I like to hike, run, write songs, play music, create art, and read books.
Life is proud to have so many employees who embody leadership and excellence in their work. Congratulations to Gaby Theriot for winning the esteemed Golden Rascal Award for the month of October! You deserve it!
