“Why stand timidly in the shadows when you can walk boldly in the light?!” – Laurie Woodward
There are very few companies in the world quite like Life. Not only does the company market life changing products to the masses and provide a competitive Compensation Plan for the Members who merchandise those products, but Life features a line-up of leaders who have influenced and impacted people all around the world. Today, we would like to feature the interview of Life Founder, leading lady, and heroine to many – Laurie Woodward!
“There are many traits of Laurie Woodward’s I admire – her focus, faithfulness and fidelity to friends is inspiring while her selflessness in service to others is second to none. Above all else, however, I would have to say Laurie’s most impressive gift is empathy – she has an uncanny ability to connect with others deeply and quickly. I have been blessed to be married to her for 25 years, witnessing her influence through empathy with life-long friends and complete strangers innumerable times, and have concluded it stems, not from teachable techniques, but rather a surrendered soul. Laurie’s heart models and messages grace to others because she has received it from her Savior.” – Orrin Woodward
Life Interview with Laurie Woodward
What do you love most about Life and why?
There are so many things I love about Life!! But, I think what I love/appreciate most, is the “safe haven” we provide for people to come in just as they are and then we get to help them grow into the person they were called to be.
What has been the greatest blessing of being a mom and a wife who is also a business owner?
Being a stay-at-home mom was my biggest dream, and because we built our business, I was able to be a full-time wife and mom. I was able to homeschool all of my children and travel the world with our family. It was such blessing to raise a family while building our business because I could do what God called me to do (and what I so badly wanted to do) and help my husband fulfill his calling as well. I know our kids would much rather watch Mom and Dad fight together for a common purpose than fight each other for our individual wants and desires, and building our business while raising our family allowed them to see just that.
If there was one product created by Life that you believe every person in the world should have, what would it be and why?
The Financial Matrix book and the Green Box go hand in hand and are two tools I think would benefit everyone regardless of the Financial Matrix quadrant they are currently in. It’s said that finances are the biggest cause of divorce, so, if couples could get on the same page with their finances, they would save so much time, energy, hurt feelings, unfulfilled expectations, and of course money!!! Getting on the same financial page would give them time, energy, and desire to enrich their relationship in other areas. I know for Orrin and I, getting on the same page about our finances helped tremendously. We quit arguing about whose ideas or feelings were right or wrong and just started following the financial principles. When you live a principled center life, you are able to make decisions that are not made emotionally but on the principles you agreed to before emotions got in the way.
In general, I think that most people are financially illiterate. I know I was and I have a college degree in accounting!! After reading The Financial Matrix (okay, after living with and listening to Orrin and all of his research), and after applying the principles found in the Financial Fitness Program, I got a real education on financial literacy. I think if everyone had this information, the world would be a much different, much better place.
How important is the Life on Life Initiative as it relates to Life’s vision and purpose?
The Life on Life Initiative is such an important part of what we do. Our motto is “Have fun, make money, make a difference”. The Life on Life Initiative is a huge part of the “Make a difference” part. The Bible says in Galatians 5:13 “You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature, rather, serve one another in love.” And in 1 Peter 4:10 it states, “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” The Life on Life Initiative answers the call to help our brothers and sisters in need with whatever gifts and talents we have been given. It has been a huge blessing watching the Life community serve others and make a difference in the world one person at a time.
If you could give only one piece of advice to a new woman (married or single) embarking on the “Life” journey, what would it be?
Be consistent. Consistently be a “Green Box Go-Getter.” Consistently READ, LISTEN, ASSOCIATE, and APPLY what you are learning. Be consistent with your focus. Consistency is key!!
What are some examples of sacrifices you have had to make on your journey to Life Coach?
The most difficult “sacrifice” I had to make was not being at home with the kids every night. But, because we would give up a few hours at night (they were in bed sleeping for most of that time), I was able to be home with them all day. The overall gain more than outweighed the sacrifice. Another interest I gave up was hockey. No, I didn’t play hockey, but I love to watch the game. However, I quit watching hockey all together (we gave up cable TV, and pretty much never mentioned it again until a few years ago). My beloved Penguins made it to the play-offs and they were playing the New York Rangers in Pennsylvania. My awesome husband flew me and two of our friends who just happen to be Ranger fans over to PA in a private jet. He bought us seats at center ice right behind the players. He insisted I buy a jersey and a baseball hat while we were at the game. So when we say “sacrifice,” I’m not sure just how much of a sacrifice it really is. The rewards are so much greater than the price. We would have NEVER flown on a private jet, sat at center ice, or bought anything at the game. So I would say the sacrifices I made were more like delays than denials.
How do you balance your mom/wife role with building your business role?
Simply put, “Be in the moment 100%”. If you are building your business, then be there 100% physically and mentally. As a mom, it is hard to not think about your children when you are away from them. And, in the same sense when you are a business owner, it is hard not to answer every text, call, or email as soon as you hear the “ding” notification. I find that the only way I can truly be effective is to give 100% in whichever role I am in at any given moment. When I am with my children, I try very hard to BE WITH MY CHILDREN. When I am out building my business, I try very hard to not keep checking my phone to make sure the kids were okay. I really find it helpful to prioritize my schedule based on the roles I played in my life. In Stephen Covey’s book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, he talks about putting the big rocks in a jar and then the smaller rocks, then the sand and then the water (which is analogous to putting the most important things in your schedule first and moving down the line from there). So for me, I sit down every Sunday and fill my “jar” (schedule).
First, I am a child of God so the first thing I put on my daily schedule is my quiet time/Bible study time. Second, I am a wife. I ask Orrin what he needs from me for the week and I fill in my calendar with those items. Next, I am a mom of 4, and each child has different needs, so I add each of those to my schedule. My children are grown now so even though I don’t have as many rocks in this area to put in my jar, there are still a few (and I hope there always will be). Fourth, I am a business owner and I have meetings to attend, calls to make, and relationships to build – so all of those have to fit into my schedule as well. And I simply go on down the list. I love schedules and lists but I know not everyone does. However, here is what I’ve found; the more detailed I am with my schedule, the more free time I actually have.
How do you explain Life to your friends or acquaintances that don’t understand what you do?
I simply share my financial testimony and tell them we help people get out of the Financial Matrix. Then I leverage the Life Training System by giving them Orrin’s book, The Financial Matrix, and/or any other books or audios that they would relate to. In a nutshell, we help people develop financial literacy by teaching them how to play offense and defense to escape the Financial Matrix.
What are you most looking forward to with Life in the next 5 years?
I am so excited to see what God does with Life over the next 5 years. How many people will be living life in the “Financially Free” quadrant? How many marriages will be saved? How many relationships will be restored? How many lives will be changed for the better because of the information they are getting from Life? How many lives will be touched by the Life on Life Initiative? There is SOOOOOOOO much to look forward to!
What do you love most about being in business with your husband, Orrin Woodward? What have you learned the most?
I love that I get to chase my dreams and my purpose with my best friend. I am so thankful to be blessed with a husband who never stops growing himself. He makes me want to be the best I can be. I love that we are growing together. The biggest thing I have learned through this journey is that you can be married and happy at the same time! 🙂 I have learned that while no one is perfect, God heard the prayers of a twelve-year-old girl and I married the exact man I was supposed to marry. Building this business is so much more than building this business. It is learning to live, pursuing a purpose, and leaving a legacy. I am so happy I get to do all of that with Orrin.
Now for a fun one! What is one of your most embarrassing moments?
It’s a toss-up between wearing my pants backwards while speaking on stage at a ladies leadership, or maybe it was the time I learned about the importance of wearing the same color underwear as your pants or skirt. Walking around with a hole in my pants was pretty embarrassing, but thankfully I have that strange obsession about my underwear matching my pants. Whew!!!!
Who inspires you?
First and foremost Jesus Christ inspires me. Wow! Knowing Him, really knowing Him has changed my life completely. When I really want to be angry or be justified in my behavior all I have to do is think of the sacrifices He made for me and how much He loves me and I want with every fiber of my being to be better. But, that could be an entire book in and of itself. Second, on a worldly level, Orrin inspires me every day to not accept mediocrity from myself. He encourages me to be the very best I can be. He continues to grow and change into the best version of himself which inspires me to do the same. Third, the leading ladies of the Life community inspire me. Being around a group of ladies that read, listen, associate, and apply at the level that these amazing ladies do is inspiring. Their love and encouragement mean the world to me. They inspire me daily to keep growing.
What is your favorite quote and/or scripture verse?
Phil 3:13-14 “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
When you get a little free time, how do you like to use it?
Well, I would say reading but since that is a big rock (so to speak), it is already part of my regular schedule. I enjoy playing pool with Orrin, even though he beats me 9 times out of 10 🙂. I also enjoy taking long walks with Orrin, holding his hand and just enjoying being together. I also love watching hockey with my son, Jeremy, especially when the Pittsburgh Penguins (my team) play the Tampa Bay Lightning (Jeremy’s team), and the Penns win. 🙂
What one question or statement would you like everyone who reads this to consider?
“Why stand timidly in the shadows when you can walk boldly in the light?!”
Lynn Burns says
Thank you Laurie! Your leadership is inspiring and the Life information is truly changing my life!!

This is exactly the person I have come to know. Laurie is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. She and Orrin have hosted Emily and I at their home several times, and always been so very kind and selfless. Love love love the Woodward’s, and love Lauries humble messages.
Thanks for being a lighthouse on the shore Laurie. Thanks for inspiring me and my wonderful wife.
Tina Abernathy says
What a fantastic article! As i read it, I could almost feel her saying these words because she lives them and has shown me that her words and her life are in sync.
I have chosen to follow Laurie Woodward for a very long time. This choice originally arose from Raymond and I building community but it stays because of who Laurie “IS” She inspires me to do more and get better because she lets her light shine and invites others to do the same.
God bless you Laurie!

Laurie, and the other leading ladies in LIFE have taught me what a real woman should be and CAN be! The potential is amazing and knowing that they are always in continued learning to grow closer to God and become a better person is how I know that I am learning from the best.
Terri Brady says
Laurie has inspired me in every way! Whether faith, family, finances…I could go down the list! I think the article is beautifully written and describes the woman I know and love. She is the same in and out of the public eye, and I know one day she will hear the words, “well done, My good and faithful servant!”
Thanks for sharing her with the world!

This is a beautiful article showing the heart of Laurie Woodward. She has blessed my life in so many ways. What I LOVE the most about her is that she is ALWAYS guiding me to the LORD! Her advice and counsel is always Christ centered. Thank you Laurie for your friendship, mentorship, and encouragement through the years! You are sunshine and such a bright light for Christ.
Greg says
My wife and I’ve have known Laurie Woodward for 10 years. We’ve seen her in up and down times, when she and Orrin are starting and ending their day, when she is leading and when she is just relaxing.
If there was one word I could use to describe Laurie it would be that she is genuine. In that, what you see is what you get. Now the same can be said for some people, but usually that would describe people whose behavior could be described as peculiar and they just want you to accept that that’s who they are. In Laurie’s case she is genuine in a wholesome, accepting way, in that she accepts you for who you are. She has the capacity to love and forgive in a way that Christ does. She models the behavior that she believes. And like her husband, she strives to improve and cares enough to share her time and support to help others improve to be the best for themselves and their families. She is the kind of friend you can feel at ease to share your innermost thoughts and concerns without fear of judgement.
And she is a Pittsburgh Penguins Fan from Michigan who now lives in Florida. lol
Susan Strickler says
Thank you for loving and leading Laurie, you are beautiful in so many ways. You are truly an inspiration!!

What a wonderful interview about a phenomenal lady! I love the blog and agree with every comment submitted so far – amen! Laurie Woodward is a rare woman in my life; she has earned my admiration for the way she seeks & surrenders to Jesus, loves people, pursues her dreams and God’s will, opens her life and heart to so many – and does it all with a great sense of purpose, humor, discipline and focus. She makes me want to follow her example though I know her goal is not for me to follow “her” but to follow our Savior and to learn to live a principle-centered life to become the best version of me. She is the real deal and the ripple effect of Laurie Woodward has only just begun. May God continue to shine His face on you, Laurie, and may you continue to reflect that light to the world! ~ Michelle Mielke
Leah Stadel says
What a wonderful article! I can hear Laurie’s laugh, her passion and her heart in every reply. When I first saw Laurie speak, I thought, “She’s such a simple woman, so transparent.” I did not know HOW that worked in a marriage and a fast growing business filled with incomparable leaders. What I learned through the years is that is one of the MAIN REASONS their marriage is so strong and their business strength is unlike anything else in the world. Her simple honesty and clear sense of priorities allows her light to shine so purely and inspire millions of others. It’s not that she is perfect, it is that she is beautifully humble, allowing a perfect God to be known. Thank you Laurie, for your faithfulness and love.
Lisa Hawkins says
Laurie is one of the most genuine and sincere people I have come to know. She is such an inspiration to me in how she compliments her husband and loves her Lord. Her heart and passion are seen in everything she chooses to pursue. I will continue to follow her example as a wife, mom, friend, and mentor. Thank you Laurie for choosing to give of yourself for the benefit of many!
Joyce Brooks says
Great interview I love and appreciate Laurie so much. Thank you for being who you are, allowing God to develop you into who He’s called you to be You are a great example for us in the business and for others. God bless you and keep you always.
Jeremy Pethke says
Wow! This is an incredible look into a true leader’s mind! I know Laurie impacted me indirectly. My wife Sammie went to a seminar 9 years ago to protect her grandpa from getting into some business. And Orrin and Laurie were speaking. Laurie was talking on stage about how the book “The Go-Giver” changed her life. Sammie left that seminar and bought that book and read it. And because of that book, she got started in the business she was trying to protect her grandpa from. Fast forward three years and that’s when we met. Now have been married for 2 1/2 years and were blessed in January with our first son. And just last week, she was able to put in her resignation at work because of applying the “Green Box”. Now she is able to be a full-time stay-at-home mom! Now we are working on getting me home! Thank you Laurie!

She is a blessing to everyone who knows her. He stories of getting it together together as a couple have helped my wife Kate and I tremendously.

Laurie Woodward truly stands as an example for all. She is a wealthy woman in every area of her life, and therefore, worthy to be emulated. For most people, a position like this would make a person prideful. Not Laurie Woodward. She is simply humble. She realizes she is saved by grace and loves everyone she meets- and they know it. She lives the 3 A principle: accept, approve and appreciate. She leads by example and holds a high standard and loves you right where you are. Simply amazing. I love Laurie for the woman of strength she is, for the fun she has and the light she shines every single day! Laurie Woodward is a blessing to this world. So glad to know her.

Wow Laurie, I love hearing you speak and I enjoyed reading your interview! You are truly an inspiration to all who meet you and get to see you up on stage. I could just listen for hours and hours to what you have to say. Sometimes when I am thinking like a 95 percenter it is nice to know all I got to do is get around the LIFE community or pop in a cd to quickly get back on track. This industry that you and Orrin have made is the most beautifulest way of really helping others not only help themselves but to help others too in such away to where we all can live the life we always wanted. I am thankful to be in LIFE! I can not wait for LIFE to be in every community of the world! May God continue to bless you and your family!
Very Respectfully and Faithfully,

I love this article about Laurie Woodward! It’s hard to describe Laurie without writing a book. Simply put, she is a beacon of light for so many. In my darkest times she has been there to lovingly help me back up. There is something very compelling about Laurie and I recognize it’s the Holy Spirit that lives inside of her. She is a mountain mover and a world shaker and will go down in history as such. I am blessed to know her. She is much loved by many.
Cynthia Dionne says
What a wise woman Laurie is! I remember meeting her for the first time and being so shocked by how much success this woman had… and still, she was so “real” and “down to earth”! In my mind it was almost too good to be true! But Laurie IS that person. Her and her husband are not where they are today because of what they’ve necessarily done… but because of WHO THEY ARE. And I can honestly say that I don’t know many people of that caliber in my life. Thank you Laurie for walking so boldly in the light. You are the light for so many! And you have changed so many lives (including mine).
Luv you lots,
Cynthia

Great interview, great lady! Laurie is real, she shines the light she speaks of!
Kristen Schill says
I could never do a better job than all the accurate, genuine and beautifully crafted comments that are already posted here, but I’d just like to say that Laurie Woodward is a blessing.
She is a blessing to LIFE for the compassionate friend and engaging teacher that she is.
She’s a blessing to her friends for her joy, service and sense of humor.
She’s a blessing to her family for the accepting mentor she is to her kids.
She’s a blessing to her husband for being his helpmate. For making HIS calling her priority, along with her calling.
She is a blessing to Christianity for living the way Jesus would have us live, as best she can, to represent her Savior well.
I’m thankful for this lady’s presence in my life and know that everyone who gets to know her will appreciate that blessing as well.
Kristine Militello says
Amen Kristen!

The first audio cd that I listened to from Life is Winning Teams Start at Home that is included in the Marriage Pack. Laurie changed my life right off the bat, especially when she shared her testimony about marriage at the end of that cd. The main thing that I wanted from Life was to get married again, and to stay married. I met the lady of my dreams in December of 2015, married her 8 months ago, and we are going strong. Another of Laurie’s favorite qualities to me is her honesty. Few people are so open and honest as Laurie.
Peggi Kern says
I absolutely love the article and love this lady! Even before I had the courage to say hello to her, she inspired and taught me so much through her messages on stage. However, as the years have gone by I have continued to grow in my respect for her as I watch her lead with grace, honesty, transparency and humor. I am now so happy to have her as a friend and pray that I will be a Life Coach sister. What an honor to serve with Laurie!
Kristine Militello says
You will be Peggi, I know it.
Tiffanie Martinez says
This article highlights so many things we all love about Laurie. She is intentional about her purpose, her focus, her faith, her family and her business. I admire her transparency and authenticity. I know I will learn, laugh and probably cry a little. I’m so thankful to have the opportunity to learn from her.
Tim Kern says
Thank you Laurie for sharing from your heart during this interview, I appreciate how transparent you are. Peggi and I have had the honor of watching how you lead yourself, your family and the Life organization for many years now and I have continually been impressed with your servant heart. Although both you and Orrin are younger than me, you two continue to teach me life lessons that I will cherish in my personal and professional life. Thank you for your example and influence in my life and my families life, truly a blessing to know you both and call you friends.
Cori Ragan says
Laurie is such an inspiration. I am so thankful I have had the opportunity to meet her.
Tina Rasmussen says
What a wonderful tribute to such an amazing woman after God’s own heart! I was very fortunate to meet Laurie early in our Life journey. We were asked to host them at an event and I was so apprehensive. Within the first 5 minutes of being with her, she made me feel like we had been friends for years. One of the things I love about Laurie is how transparent she is. I believe she truly leads through her transparency, loving us where we are at, but on a mission not to leave us there. I also love how all her actions and reasonings leads back to God, teaching us to do the same through her stories and her teachings. I have learned to ask myself, “What would God want me to do?” and “What would Laurie do?”:) She has been and continues to be a true inspiration to me! Thank you Laurie from the bottom of my heart, and thank you Kristen for such a wonderful post!
Lin Johnson says
I love the article on Laurie. Your interview was perfect, both the questions and the answers! There are so many things I love about Laurie, but the thing that stands out the most is that she truly accepts everyone where they are and just loves them right there. I will say that, I know for me, even though she does love me where I am, I want to be better because of the example she sets. I have never seen her or Orrin say ANYTHING bad about anyone, and I know they have had reason to. They both exude love and compassion for everyone they are around. I am grateful that God put them both in our lives and I am truly glad to call them friends. Laurie is a great mentor for me as a woman and has helped me to realize that my husband’s calling is indeed my calling as well. I am forever grateful for the advice and for the love Laurie shows to us. God Bless!
