“Excellence is not being the best; it is doing your best.”
Whether you are a Member in the field or an employee at the “The Office,” Life prides itself on setting a high bar of excellence in all areas of life. Because of this culture, one of the most enjoyable commendations at the Life Office is to win the Golden Rascal Award. Everyone is asked to vote for their nominee and to provide specific examples of how their nominee embodies certain qualities, such as character, hunger, work ethic, creativity, team ego, and excellence. Our most recent Golden Rascal winner is none other than the amazing, Rachel Hoover!
First of all, tell us a little about yourself.
I moved to North Carolina with Life a little over 2 years ago. I have lived all over the United States, so I don’t really have a place that I am originally from, born in Virginia, and have lived in 9 states since then! Though Michigan would probably be called home, because I spent the most time there.
How did you land your position with Life corporate?
I had just moved back to Michigan, from the Chicago area, and was currently working for a bank when the agency that they worked with at the time reached out to me regarding an event coordinator position. I had been a wedding coordinator for a hotel property in the Chicago area, so the event experience that I had piqued their interest in me!
How long have you been with Life and what is your current role with the company?
I believe I started my 5th year with the company this past July. I am one of the Special Events coordinators, so I plan the Leadership Conventions, Go Life Coach, Fun in the Sun events, and anything else they throw my way 🙂
What is the best part of your job?
I think the best part of my job is seeing the events come together the way we envisioned them. We have a 3 month planning process for each event, so to see all of it come together and flow very well is always a great experience!
Do you have a favorite book or product in the Life portfolio?
Probably Personality Plus, by Florence Littauer. I had no idea that I was a Choleric / Sanguine mix until I read that book, and it all makes a lot more sense now! Haha!
What would you say is your lifelong passion?
Traveling! I love experiencing new cultures, and seeing & experiencing their every day lifestyles. I love the fact that I get to travel with all of our different events within the company, and traveling on my personal time whether it be mission trips, weekend road trips, or bucket list trips. It’s always fun, relaxing, and exciting!
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
The ability to be in two places at one time! There’s just so many different things going on that I want to experience, and I don’t think there is ever enough time. So to be able to be in two places at the same time, that would be pretty sweet!
If you had a time machine, where would you go – back in time or into the future and why?
Back in time definitely! Seeing movies, and reading books about the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s just seems like it would be such a fun era to be apart of! It was a simpler way of life, and the fashion that they had back then was fantastic, so I would love experiencing those eras!
Tell us about one of your most embarrassing experiences.
Ah….. I honestly can’t think of any! I grew up with two brothers my entire life, so they did just about every embarrassing thing to me that was possible I am sure. I also have quite a few blonde moments, so I can’t think of anything specific that really stands out! Sorry! 🙂
Do you have a favorite quote?
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” ~Maya Angelou~
To wrap up, what do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working?
When I’m not working, I tend to spend my time with my friends and family, checking out breweries, festivals, concerts, hanging with my cat – Allan, and painting. I love that the beach is close now, so I spend a lot of time there!
