“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” – Confucius
Celebrating victories in the corporate world is not as common as some would expect. However, as a company, Life is the exception. The Golden Rascal Award is an exciting way to recognize employees who go above and beyond the call of duty day in and day out. What’s even more impressive is that colleagues vote on the winner, which means the efforts and contribution of the individual don’t go unnoticed.
While this award could be given to any number of people at the office, only one is chosen. That’s what makes winning the award so special. In November of 2016, the winner of the Golden Rascal Award was Accounting Manager, Christine Webster. Check out her interview and story below!
Life Golden Rascal Interview with Christine Webster
First of all, tell us a little about yourself.
Well, I moved to North Carolina two years ago from Virginia with my husband and two kids (ages 7 and 4.5). My family is originally from the DC area and even further back I have family who are immigrants from Italy. I’ve been to Italy once and still have family and friends there. I have a Bachelor of Science degree, but I started out as an Art major and quickly realized that it would have been hard to make art into a career, so now it’s just a hobby for me.
How did you land your position with Life corporate?
I got a call that Life was looking for a temp and that’s what I was doing prior and within 24 hours of doing a phone interview and in-person interview, I was offered the position. Then, after 90 days, I was hired on full-time!
How long have you been with Life and what is your current role with the company?
I just passed my first full year with the company in September. I started off as a Senior Accountant and I was promoted to Accounting Manager in April of 2016. I basically manage the entire finance department – I produce and manage the financials for all of the countries, I make sure sure people get paid, that bills are getting paid, and I manage all of the banking. If it involves money, it involves me! 🙂
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is working with and interacting with all of the different departments. Everybody in the office uses the finance department in one way or another so that gives me an opportunity to get to know everyone. I never feel isolated in my position. I also like that we get to go to the conventions.
Do you have a favorite book or product in the Life portfolio?
I like the Financial Fitness Program because it is so practical and everyone can gain something from it. It literally is for everybody, not just a particular person. Anyone could find value and benefit in it and most of the skills taught in the Financial Fitness Program you are never taught in traditional education.
What would you say is your lifelong passion?
Definitely traveling – I love going to new places and experiencing the different cultures, the food, and the art (especially because I have a passion for art).
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I would like to be able to see into the future. I don’t like to make mistakes so if I could see into the future and prevent any mistakes that I might make, and even be able to see what’s ahead of me, it would give me something to look forward to.
If you had a time machine, where would you go – back in time or into the future and why?
Definitely I would want to go into the future to see what life is going to be like. I believe the past is what makes us who we are and without our past we would be different people today.
Tell us about one of your most embarrassing experiences.
Haha. This just happened recently. One of my co-workers was telling me about this really great consignment shop nearby where he found some really great deals so I wanted to go check it out. Well, I walked in thinking it was the place that he was talking about. When the lady asked, “how can I help you…” I responded: “My co-worker told me about this place and that I should come and check it out. He comes here several times a week just to see all of the new stuff you have.” Later, I realized as I was walking around the store that it’s a women’s clothing store and that it wasn’t the place he was talking about. So I just sort of slipped out of there because I was too embarrassed to stay any longer.
Do you have a favorite quote?
“No one gets out alive, every day is do or die
The one thing you leave behind
Is how did you love, how did you love?” – Lyrics from Shinedown
Well, to wrap up, what do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working?
I love playing with my kids, going to festivals and community events with my family, listening to live music, going to concerts, going to the movies, and traveling!
Life is so proud to have someone as dedicated and tenacious as Christine Webster to lead the Accounting Department at the World Headquarters. Congratulations Christine, on winning the Golden Rascal Award for the month of November!
